THE INSPIRATION

BEHIND MY WORK

As many of you know, my mother recently lost her battle to stage four lung cancer. For most of my life, she was poised and ready to use any health impediment or challenging situation as a vehicle to inspire and teach others. At the end of her life, she applied this same creative genius to the way she died. She continues to inspire me (and others) every day. Find out more below.

ABOUT JAMIE

For most of my life, I've lived in increasing discomfort in my own body. Some friends said it was all in my head, but I felt myself unsatisfied with that explanation. I went from the local dive bar, to the church and religion groups, to the chiropractor and the massage therapist, to my friendly neighborhood zen monk to ask questions.

Sex and love provided a moment of relief, but my symptoms quickly returned with fury. I lifted weights, ate kale and quinoa, and only kept getting weaker. I quit drinking and smoking, and pedaled my bicycle thousands of miles. I tried nutritionists, psychologists, psychiatrists, general medical physicians...

No one had answers.

Several years were spent on the threshold of absolute psychosomatic desperation. Then something amazing happened. I found yoga. After attending a few classes a week for about a year, I could finally sit up straight. I could actually breath!

At age 33, the pain went away and it hasn’t come back.

I was still myself, but my life was characterized by a beautiful new lightness. My healing event was when my vertebral column lifted away from the compressed tissue of my spinal cord, my hormones balanced, my blood filled with precious neurotransmitters, and my body finally jump started... the birth right of a healthy human! I believe the event was of deeper, spiritual importance as well.

Because of this madness, I hadn’t started my life’s work at the same time as my peers. I needed a new career. Under the instruction of Dr. Stover-Schmitt, a pioneer in the field of yoga therapy, I decided to study what had happened to me and devote myself to helping others lighten the load of the human body.

With the subtle practices of yoga therapy, physical pain can almost always be treated solely in body; most of my clients and students first come to me with back pain or joint pain. Emotional traumas often come to the surface during our work together. My most satisfying and longest lasting professional relationships have been with those who want to harmonize and balance their life and experience on multiple layers: mind, body, soul.

So welcome, friend. I'm glad you're here. Take a look around and if you're ready to begin, please fill out this form. Do not hesitate to contact me with any questions you may have. I look forward to getting to know you.
