Hi, I am Jamie. I wanted to take a moment to introduce myself.
I have been teaching yoga for a few years and I am recently certified by the International association of yoga therapists. Yoga therapy is a very effective antidote to the stressors of modern life. It takes a little while to work, but it provides an integrative set of self directed choices that is often lacking in modern healthcare. In 2015 I started practicing yoga a few times per week. I met a lot of women who were ready to tell me all about how yoga could change my life. But I didn’t meet so many guys who could tell me about it from the perspective of the male body and men’s health issues. I had to figure out some really complicated stuff on my own. After about a year of regularly practicing yoga I was suddenly lifted out of a half a lifetime of psychosomatic confusion. Now I am always on the lookout for my guys, the men who are going to take a few steps down this life long path of traditional yoga with me.
My training in SpandaⓇ Yoga Movement Therapy began when I met my yoga teacher, Dr. Jaime Stover Schmitt, in November of 2016. It is based on the teachings of Swami Rama of the Himalayas. By studying the wisdom of yoga, I learned about what had happened to me. The bulk of my therapeutic offerings are based on this tradition, but I studied other yogic traditions and other world healing modalities through the lens it provided me. The principles of modern exercise modalities and new research into the roll fascia in the nervous system are also included. Yoga therapy is intended to function in cooperation with your medical doctor, acupuncturist, nutritionist, physical therapist, psychiatrist, psychologist, and any other primary or alternative health care provider you choose.
Many people in our community are familiar with my mother’s work. A few of my clients have even crossed over from her to me. Though I am not directly affiliated with the suppers programs, I grew up inside of my mother’s social experiment. Since I have become interested in yoga, it has occured to me that suppers resembles the yoga of food. The principles of non-judgement, awareness, experimentation and curiosity are almost the same. In yoga therapy we can also work with food, and there are many possible variations on a yogic diet.
Near the end of her life, my mother started a youtube channel, “dying dor’s way”. Thousands of viewers benefited from her experience of getting organized and peacefully letting go. This approach to the evolution of consciousness is deeply inspirational to me.
So sit back and enjoy perusing some more of my personal musings. I am glad you are here.
Namaste,
Jamie
